I am getting some exposure to Sitecore so I would have to add that while it IS extensible and there are plenty of good features there are some things I have found really annoying if not down right frustrating. Mostly these centre around the fact that Sitecore training and online resources are SOOOOO completely biassed to xslt renderings for their presentation layer! Now I object to having to expose my team to having to use yet another language that divorces them away from the other work they do all week long - ie NORMAL .net webcontrols. I asked this question during training and received some very fuzzy or empty answers - "oh yes you can use normal webcontrols". That was it, no embellishment. And that is the same for the online resource which are so vaunted as a support network. Only other problem is that their online resource also still quotes something like 80% at version 5.3 and under. As 6 has been the current version for a while now, why on earth havent these been updated?! (As you rightly pointed out, masters were removed so examples littered with references to masters are really not helpful at all).
Well thats my rant over, I actually like a lot of stuff about Sitecore - chiefly the ease with which you are able to visualise and therefore deal with the content data (although once again they have not geared the data exposure into classes as well as I would like,due to the bias to xslt).
